#3 consolation for those with poor focus
Oct. 2nd, 2017 11:52 pmIf it's any consolation, I have started working.
I'm working on something related to versioning for object storage.
It's 1:20 a.m. and now it's too late to be working on versioning stuff. :'(
I estimated 2 weeks for this feature and it should have been fine, but I guess I am slow sometimes due to days of productivity lost and just slow thoroughness.

Date: 2017-10-12 03:03 pm (UTC)Hi I'm rainedparade! Um, I saw your profile on addme and it was like reading bits and pieces of my own life which was kind of startling but also intriguing! I'm sure you're super busy so this is a total shot in the dark and I definitely won't be offended if you don't have the time or interest to respond! (This is my first time responding to an addme post so please pardon my awkward waffling. OTL)
NAME: rainedparade
AGE: 24
INTERESTS & HOBBIES: My main hobbies are reading, writing, and drawing and I regularly swim and bike. I used to do rollerskating every week but the nearest rink closed down. When I'm on break I love camping and hiking, fishing and boating. With regards to games, I stick to one or two and go at it for years -- for example, in high school I played Neopets and SSBM; college was more SSBM and Monster Hunter. I've played Pokémon since Crystal and will eat it up in any incarnation (yes, I play Pokémon GO) and I've been addicted to Puzzle&Dragons since 2013. I recently got into Warhammer40K because of the novels but I've slid down that slippery slope and am now amassing an army of space marines, woe is me.
In addition to reading sci-fi and fantasy, I lovelovelove manga. It makes me so happy there are fantastic manhwa and manhua in play as well and I am enthusiastically looking forward to when US manga artists can enter the game. One of my favorite manga (and tbh the gold standard for romance in my own personal life) is Nodame Cantabile. I grew up on shounen and shoujo and though I still love series within them, I'm more drawn to josei now. I'll run the gamut from tragedy (Castle of Sand) to 100% wish fulfillment (I Need to Call in Sick Today) and am always up for squee'ing about new series or new developments in established series. Also recommendations and rereads, what-have-you.
LOOKING FOR: Long winded conversations about anything and everything! I really miss the tl;dr comment posts of livejournal (or better yet email lol) and having friends who share similar hobbies rather than coworkers (who are wonderful in their own way but have their own interests and social groups and...).
ANYTHING ELSE?: I lived in Silicon Valley until 18 and still come back to visit family and intern/help out with random (totally not having the goal of being bought out no sirree) startups so on one hand, I think it's cool to meet someone with a similar background and on the other hand we should probably not drop names, it's a small world ahahahah. OTL
I don't go on dates often either, hooray! Probably because IRL I'm really slow to warm up to (or be comfortable with) people (guys especially) so by the time I announce to myself "I could see this person in a romantic light" they already think themselves friendzoned, oops. I have no piercings or tattoos and don't like violence or gore (what am I doing in WH40K I wonder) and have a long long list of foods I won't eat.
Oh my god is this too long? This is definitely too long, I'm really sorry.

In response to the post this comment is, you know, responding to, congratulations for starting working!! And oh jeez working at 1AM. Hope you're halfway through with your project at the moment, gambatte! <3

Date: 2017-10-17 05:29 am (UTC)We do seem to have some interests in common! I'm afraid I haven't learned to roller-skate that much yet but I'm totally down to learn.. when I can find the time. ( ꒦ິ꒳꒦ີ) I'm hoping some of the skills I learned from ice skating will transfer over, and I'm looking into Planet Rollerskate videos (helpful! I admire Moxie Girls-types).
Other than that you sound a lot more active than me.. lol x3 Ice skating is my main form of physical activity. I wish I still played games! But I think I feel like it's too much of a time sink, so I mostly abstain from them unless watching other people play them in Let's Play videos. My friends have tried to suck me into Starcraft I/II but I'm super newb because I only play when they put on events.
I also love Nodame Cantabile! And my sister and I often used to muse about the potential for developing a US market for US creators. My sister is still kinda stuck on that idea and making a manga aggregation reader for her hobby project (she insists it will be different from current aggregators :p). I didn't recognize the other titles you mentioned, so I'll have to check them out--maybe you can provide some links or your own description? I mostly follow projects scanlated by the Stiletto Heels Team. I also started reading Haru no Noroi and Hakoniwa no Soleil recently.
Long-winded convos ftw! Just sorry that my replies might take a while due to that :p What is the best format? Should we keep on replying on this comment or start a dm chain? Haha, I'm not so familiar with livejournal/dreamwidth conventions :P
Cool that you're in the area sometimes! I might be happy to meet sometime down the road, depending on your comfort level with irl meet-ups ^^; For now I'm happy to be an online buddy! And yeah. I've been analyzing a lot (relatively) recently about why I find it hard to open up when dating. Maybe food for a blog post later.. heheh. Oh, two more random observations: a) you seem more chipper than me! b) I have a very short list of foods I won't eat! I like most types of food and I think I'm fairly tolerant of trying new / weird food. (^◕ᴥ◕^)

Date: 2017-10-17 08:53 pm (UTC)Ice-skating skills definitely transfer over! I actually started with ice-skating but then we moved houses and the rollerskating rink was then closer than the ice-skating one. I wouldn't be surprised if you had an easy learning curve. I'm more nervous ice skating now, come to think of it, and I don't dare do anything fancy (not even the most basic jump). >_<;;
Active? Pffft, I wish! It took me three days to gather the energy to move my bike from storage to the bike rack and I still haven't ridden it yet. It's okay bike, one of these days...! Really, my core hobbies are as lethargic as they come and I like dozing off while reading. orz Besides those two mobile phone games (which are surprise surprise singleplayer games) I don't play anything. Excitedly waiting for Ultra Sun/Moon though Sun/Moon kept me occupied for less than a week!
There is definitely a market for manga aggregators and I remain hopeful that there will be a market for US manga
that's entirely separate from the comics industry hahaha. Best of luck to your sister then! <3!! I love Stiletto Heels! Specifically their series [&]! Though I've read the spoilers and am a bit disappointed with the ending but the artwork is gorgeous and it's not that long so I'll definitely read it to the end! What other series of theirs would you recommend?
Ahahaha I just started reading those two series as well! Are you caught up with the current scanlations? Do you want to talk about them?? The premise for both of them is so interesting -- for Haru no Noroi the idea of dealing with a deceased relative's emotional baggage hits really close to home and Hakoniwa no Soleil is set in an art class, oh the nostalgia. And there's a murder, oohlala!
Castle of Sand (Suna no Shiro) is by Ichijo Yukari and it's basically the story of this girl's life from adolescence to adulthood. It begins with tragedy and it ends with tragedy but the ups and downs and in between is fantastic. The art style is 90's shoujo so it took a bit getting used to for me, but I like how... um, ultimately independent the main character ended up being, even with her roots and her circumstances and how everyone from friends to family were like 'I'll take care of you / you don't need to do anything'. But it's sad. Sad, sad, sad! ;_;
Tomorrow I'm on Leave (Kyou wa Kaisha Yasumimasu) is the other one, by Fujimura Mari, and it's veeery wish fulfillment. The MC is a 33 year old unmarried office lady (like an older version of the [&] MC) who suddenly gets a boyfriend much younger than her (like college student) and a guy her own age pursuing her. At the moment I think the younger boyfriend is going to win but they're really dragging out the will-they-or-won't-they. Normally I don't like triangles featuring an established couple, but since it's at times a gag manga (and the third wheel is almost gentlemanly lol), I don't mind!
Maybe when it becomes impossible to read this comment chain we can switch to DM's?
I'd definitely be up for an IRL meetup! But I must warn you I'm quiet and nervous-giggly in real life. As for being more chipper, well, I am one whole year older than you! P: I should take a page from your eating habits though, it's becoming more difficult to pass my preferences off as allergies as the list grows longer (and more erratic).
Aaaand there I go with the tl;dr OTL OTL OTL
Please take your time with the response! Maybe one (or both) of the manga will have updated in the time! \o/

Date: 2017-11-19 08:30 am (UTC)Me and my sister started to get a little more active partly because of that sports sponsorship, actually. I dunno how, but we've gotten into the idea of sports where you can do cool-looking tricks involving skill, like skateboarding, roller skating, free style ice skating and now longboarding. I saw this video and immediately ordered two longboards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fv_TKblIwY8&feature=youtu.be
Haha, I'm afraid my mom is mad at me since I don't think she understands spending money on something like that.
I'm envious that you still read though! I only do it on occasion and I feel sad about that. I need to visit the library more often.
I read & as well! I haven't read the ending but I feel it's mostly about expressing sentiments in artwork. I'm actually not super invested in the characters but I admire the unconventionality and enjoy the reading experience anyway. For other series scanlated by Stiletto Heels Team, I've enjoyed: Futago, Balancing Toy (Yajirobee), Sekine's Story, and Principal. I also really liked their shojo project Six Half but I think that ended up going to another team in the end. They also scanlate a lot of other series and I'd recommend checking out pretty much each of their projects! They're usually worthwhile enough.
Ohh!! I'm glad I'm responding to your message now because I think I forgot about Haru no Noroi and had to look it up again. :P I was up to date when I sent you the first message, but something may have come out since then. I've been keeping up-to-date with Hakoniwa no Soleil, but I'm getting premonitions it may end in an unsatisfying manner for me. I liked the characters at first, and the interesting plot, but I feel like it might devolve into stereotypical/unconvincing portrayals for the sake of shojo stereotypes. (I might have read some mangaupdates reviews that gave me heads-ups x_x)
I should remember to check out the series you recommended :3 My sister has also recommended reading Ran to Haiiro no Sekai. It has an interesting art style if that's something you may be interested in! And from what I remember from watching her screen, an unconventional age-gap relationship between the main character and her love interest. I think it's mostly a light-hearted story, but it seemed to affect my sister a lot at certain points. :P
Sorry it's taken so long to respond to you. It's been wow so busy!! A lot of social stuff, and then work angst and being busy interviewing, and we also decided to move all of a sudden so just a lot of things happened at once and it's kept me busy for almost a month at least, it feels like. And yeah, I'm quiet too in real life! Depending on the situation, at least. ;3 You said you don't live in the area but you visit often? Any idea of when you might be in the area? Maybe we can rollerskate or swim together! (we're moving to an apartment with a swimming pool, haha)
How've you been over the past few weeks? :D
